Our activities in Switzerland have been operating uniformly under the Fitshop brand since July 2023
The branch in Lausanne and the French-language webshop have already been using the Fitshop brand since 2016, and now the branches in Zurich, Bern and Basel as well as the German-language webshop are following suit. As before, at Fitshop Zurich, Fitshop Berne and Fitshop Basel you will find the largest selection of leading fitness equipment brands as well as the best advice from our competent teams on site. The German-language webshop in Switzerland has also been renamed from sport-tiedje.ch to fitshop.ch.
Fitshop as a unified European brand
Sport-Tiedje was founded in 1984 as a sports shop by Ulrich Tiedje. Over the years we have concentrated on the trade with fitness equipment and became Europe's number 1 for home fitness. We are your partner for cardio and strength equipment, dumbbells as well as articles from the wellness sector and the games & fun category. We have been active online in Switzerland for over 20 years, including our first Swiss branch in Hohlstrasse in Zurich since 2005.
Since July 2023, we have been operating throughout Switzerland under the Fitshop brand - it clearly describes what we stand for: We are a specialist market for fitness equipment, offering everything for fitness at home and in commercial gyms. This means there is no confusion with fitness studios and it is clear at first glance that we are not a general sports retailer, but a specialist fitness market.
The reason for the rebranding is that we want to appear nationwide under one brand, and this is Fitshop. It is therefore with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to the name of our company founder in German-speaking Switzerland. We are already active under the Fitshop brand in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Denmark, Poland and Western Switzerland. Since July 2023, our branches in Zurich, Bern and Basel as well as our German-language webshop in Switzerland now also bear the name Fitshop.
Apart from the name nothing will change for you as our customers, we will remain as before your reliable and competent contact for fitness equipment in Switzerland.

Has Sport-Tiedje been bought by Fitshop and is therefore being renamed?
No, the ownership structure remains unchanged. The activities in Switzerland are and remain part of the German Sport-Tiedje Group. The Sport-Tiedje Group has been using the Fitshop brand internationally since 2015, including in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Denmark, Spain and Poland. Since 2016, the French-speaking activities in Switzerland have been managed under the Fitshop brand, this has now been extended to all our activities in Switzerland.
Why Fitshop?
It describes what we do: We are a specialist shop for fitness equipment. Sport-Tiedje is difficult to pronounce in some areas and languages, has a general sports focus and thus does not express our focus on fitness equipment.
Will any branches be closed?
No, the stores in Lausanne, Zurich, Basel and Bern will remain open as before, under the name Fitshop since July 2023.
Why was the store in Lausanne already called Fitshop?
In non-German-speaking countries, the name "Sport-Tiedje" is very difficult to pronounce. That's why we have been using the Fitshop brand throughout Europe since 2015, for example in our Belgian shops (Fitshop Brussels and Fitshop Antwerp) and at our shops in France (Fitshop Paris), Denmark (Fitshop Copenhagen), Poland (Fitshop Warsaw) and the Netherlands (Fitshop Amsterdam, Fitshop Bodegraven, Fitshop Den Haag, Fitshop Eindhoven, Fitshop Roosendaal, Fitshop Rotterdam).
