The Finnish company Tunturi was founded in 1922, when the Harkke brothers opened a small bike shop in Turku. Initially specialising in bike repairs, Tunturi also manufactured its own bikes over the years. Within a few years, the small shop became a factory. In the 1950s, Tunturi was the market leader for mopeds. Based on technology and know-how from bike production, Tunturi successfully specialised in fitness equipment in the 1970s.
